Introduction

The Wars of the Roses, one of the most treacherous and bloodiest times in English history, has been distilled into a cardgame of skill and chance. Choose your king and build your house in a family feud that is both cruel and brutal. In a reimigination of events, all four crowned kings of the period fight for the English throne, by defeating their rivals in battle and commiting them to the fate of 'The Tower'.

The Tower cardgame is intended to be a bricolage, interweaving traditional poker rules with new cards and original game play, utilising the history of the late medieval period and art to produce both an illustrative and educational experience. Above all, I wanted the game to be fun and engaging, but also accessible and easy to play. Furthermore, I have developed this website to provide a historical and cultural resource that I hope will cultivtate an interest in the period, the characters, and events.

The initial feedback for the game has been positive. It has been tested amongst friends and within a secondary school as a luchtime club. Pupils and adults alike appear to agree 'The Tower' is a really fun game. Please see the testimonials.

Images for the game have been carefully selected & adapted from a number of royalty free sources, including: Period medieval manuscripts, paintings, illustrations, tarot cards, engravings, and stained glass. Attempts have been made to remain historically accurate wehere possible.
